AppleMail CPU utilization at 25%

Once again I had a problem with apple mail and a continuous CPU load of ~ 25%, all here for a solution with the same error.

Apparently anything goes wrong with the address book synchronization and this causes the load to find the problem solution: http://discussions.info.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11471415

In summary helps the command:

  # Rm ~ / Library / Application \ Support / AddressBook / Sources * /

Housekeeping in Leopard

After it has been felt recently my OSX always portly I was looking for tools to bring the system back on its feet. Here my two candidates are especially dear to the heart:

OnyX helps to refresh and rebuild all caches and access other "system maintenance" scripts.

OnyX

AppCleaner is intended to remove previously installed programs without leaving any residue.

AppCleaner

Subjectively, the at least brought some with me, let's see if there can be optimized even further.

Viscosity - tunnel vision, only better?

After I long time under Tiger tunnel vision have used as a GUI for OpenVPN, the leaders had fallen steadily since switching to Leopard no longer possible, tunnel vision is.

Mittlwerweile although there are again a beta which will probably work better because I've tried so far does not.

Now, there is a new frontend called Viscosity . Currently the beta is still free, then it will cost, according to testimony of the developer about $ 9. In comparison to the previous tunnel vision, but it can also manage the configuration, ie it is no longer obliged to maintain the configuration file manually. Additionally there is the possibility to import existing configurations of tunnel vision.

Here are some screenshots Viscosity

TuneUp iTunes helper

Unfortunately, there TuneUp previously only available for Windows and not for the Mac, here the reminder for the site.

The whole is probably the following:

  • Cleanup of the Library
  • Covers get
  • Analysis of the Library
  • and looks nice

All in all, probably an alternative for iEatBrainz etc.

Let's wait until the end of the year off.

iPhone Girl

Have an article about the iPhone Girl found, but read for yourself at Maclife . I personally would find it funny when I would find my iPhone to unpack a photo from the factory after another.

The lady has now also has its own website.

iPhone 3G ... A first report

Now that I've already used a certain time the iPhone 3G is a short time between audit. I'm thrilled so far in advance, the user ergonomics are much better than my previous Nokia E90 (which incidentally is for sale).

Application Technically I am also well covered, and the only thing I lack now is a painful TLS / SSL enabled Jabber / XMPP client and OutBank an HBCI-enabled banking application, the process can also handle the mTAN Tanlisten and it was just a fantastic tool.

When the iPhone first addon I have a sleeve of free game ordered, the processing is really awesome and makes the case very robust.

For another, I have the snap-in adapter for our BMW Bluetooth car kits purchased, the adapter works for both the first generation iPhone (perfect fit) and for the iPhone 3G (the front claw is not to interfere but not). Incidentally, soon come to an updated version of the adapter for the iPhone 3G onto the market.

Currently (until Thursday) I'm in the way here .

iPhones from Italy

After last week we were on holiday in Austria we have a small iPhone shopping trip to Italy have made. Contrary to previous statements in various forums we have had no problems at five of the phones.

While still in TIM prepaid cards must be system sold and this one needs an Italian tax number it was received completely at Vodafone garkein problem the phones without registration. Had we known this we would have been only voher to a Vodafone shop and would have saved Ettlich kilometers and discussions with the nice saleswoman TIM.

Migration Wizard

Yesterday I got my new Mac because I wanted the course as quickly as possible into operation I have the OSX's "Migration Assistant" is used.

The wizard takes over completely automates all user-specific data and installed programs from one Mac to another. This works perfectly on the network and took about 3 to 4 hours for 30GB data scarce.

As a previous Linux and Windows users it's a whole new behavior after installing a new hardware update any programs receive the entire browser history remains, do not set up new e-mail clients, etc. ....

Another point that speaks for the Mac.

MediaCenter

I'm just looking for a sitting-room media center solution. Here I am on Plex pushed replacement (formerly OSXBMC) based on a MacOS X-Box Media Center, the whole thing looks very promising especially as the developer of Plex cooperation with CenterStage, another Mac-based HTPC system have closed.

The optimal solution would be the whole or combine it with a DVB-S receiver (EyeTV 310), as would my wireless keyboard from Logitech diNovo Mini hover. So it is possible to easily check e-mails just before the TV or surf the Internet.

cheap hardware for expensive money?

It was once about a year ago .... could begin the story, as a Mac newbie procured his first Macbook Pro.
Since then, he is ambivalent between the user and the ergonomics of the software, unfortunately, terribly poor quality of the hardware.
Since buying the Macbook in May 2006, the Apple device known error of the "whimper" in the CPU idle, disbanded shortly thereafter coating the inner cover plate and was replaced under warranty. The settlement of warranty exchange was afloat in about 5! Weeks worked.
Recently, during hot weather is one of the two fans under the speakers, unfortunately, clearly audible through a loud cracking noise.

When the hardware is probably about 10-15% above the price of a similar device from other major manufacturers do not pass something like this in my opinion.
The whole just does not fit with Apple and its associated image.

All in all a very poor performance
